Santa Monica Mountains
As with many goals I’ve set for myself, the edges are fuzzy.
In this case the last month has been many days of living out of a duffle bag, driving hundreds of miles with my plant babies in the passenger seat, and maintaining a full time work schedule during the week. I’ve missed meals and winced at the gas prices…along with the rest of America. These days I wake up early and find my new work life consuming my thoughts, but in a good way. The way that one might fondly consider their academic studies.
Keep in mind this isn’t a pat on the back for myself and my ability to juggle many different parts of life. I take care of only myself, and this could be the only time in my life when I might have the luxury of saying that. I’ll relish it while I can, while maintaining careful awareness of other lives people live.
Now that I’ve laid the context, a quick (and foggy) walk on the edge of the Santa Monica Mountains is all I have to present this month in my series of adventuring. Although laid-back, it was a lovely morning followed by a day of exploring a city I’ll eventually call home.
This is easily a walk I could accomplish and extend on any given day. Luckily my counterpart was a real trooper and hit the trail while the cool air was still warming up from the sun. My favorite detail from the morning were the dewy spiderwebs scattered on the grass. I’d never seen that before and I thought it was funny and peculiar.
I’m an outspoken lover of the morning. This time was no different, and we were even graced with thick mist wrapping the hills up in a white layer. It’s one of those mornings where if you have any sort of imagination you can create dozens of personas for yourself, wild and free in nature. To me it’s bliss.
